Secure digital learning behind prison walls
PET in Prison is a secure, restricted-access learning platform built for Prisoners’ Education Trust, providing education and qualifications to people in custody across the UK prison network.
Challenge
PET needed a highly secure, closed network website – one of only a handful permitted for access inside UK prisons – allowing learners to log in, complete courses, and receive accreditation. The system had to meet stringent security and data protection standards while remaining simple and usable for people with limited digital access.
Solution
We built PET in Prison on PorterWP with Restrict Content Pro and a fully customised user workflow. Learners can log in securely, take quizzes, and download certificates that are automatically emailed to their assigned mentors. Access is controlled via prison IT administrators, with no external dependencies. The entire platform is fully compliant with HM Prison Service security protocols.
Outcome
The PET in Prison platform delivers accessible digital learning to thousands of people in custody – providing a safe, approved environment to gain qualifications and prepare for life beyond prison. It’s a pioneering example of how WordPress can power secure, high-impact solutions in restricted environments.
